Year of Free Speech Kickoff Event

On Oct. 5, 2023, Chancellor Howard Gillman kicked off the Year of Free Speech with a virtual event that included a panel discussion moderated by Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Willie Banks. The panelists included were Jun Jang, ASUCI president; Tiffany López, dean of the Claire Trevor School of the Arts; and Megan Enciso, director of student affairs for the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing. Michelle Deutchman, executive director of the UC National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement, concluded the event with a briefing on key First Amendment and academic freedom concepts.
